Analysis of the old man's character

2110袁思涵
Santiago is a poor old man. Hemingway created this image with his refined language. It can be said that Hemingway did not give the old man success, but gave the old man an elegant and tough image under pressure. All things are full of competition and struggle between the weak and the strong. The brave win when they meet on a narrow road, but the elderly have the most precious quality, that is, the will to win and faith.

Hemingway's Santiago is a true portrayal of the old man and the tough man. He used his image of Santiago to teach the world a life philosophy lesson that "one can be destroyed, but not defeated". From the perspective of the structure of the whole novel, the image of Santiago was sad and ended in tragedy. But it was precisely because of this sense of tragedy that the hero's inner great character was revealed. The analysis of Santiago's rich and distinctive characters was not only of great social significance at that time, but also of extraordinary significance in the contemporary era.

The old man's spirit of perseverance is so faithful, his strong will is extraordinary. Though he failed to succeed at last, he has never been defeated. As for me, he is a winner.

Perseverance, indomitable, optimistic and confident. Even though no fish has been caught for 84 days, the old man still insists on going out to sea and fighting with the big marlin.

Hemingway, too, is always so proud and unyielding. Suicide is not a stoop to death, but a portrayal of extraordinary bravery. The writer also has clear eyes. Even though he is suffering from injury and illness, he still firmly looks at the world and tells the voice of his heart that is never calm.

But her aunt was very unkind to her. She treated her like a servant every day, and often mistreated her, even by children of her own age. Unyielding power Jane Eyre really can not stand such torture, then resolutely left the "prison". Came to a school, and began a long new life. When she grew up, she became a tutor, but her feelings were frustrated. After many hardships, she had a happy and enviable family and a perfect life. Although Jane Eyre tasted all the suffering of life, but still indomitable, and fate arm wrestle, finally win back their own beautiful life. Jane Eyre is an orphan, and we are very well off, but few are as strong and unyielding as she is! Are we supposed to deserve it? After reading this book, I firmly believe that only those who know how to be strong in adversity and have the courage to overcome difficulties are truly successful people. Remember Hemingway's famous quote: A man can be torn apart, but not beaten down. Even if it is upset by frustration and failure one hundred times, also want to stand up one hundred and one times, leave the bitter smile to yesterday, with unyielding perseverance and faith to win the future!

The old fisherman showed amazing perseverance in his fight with the sea. The terrible thing should be to fear failure, be mindful of gains and losses, and lose our brave and tenacious heart. The old man also experienced the failure of not catching sharks for 84 days, which made him succeed in catching sharks. But how much tenacity and effort must be paid! Don't admit defeat. Never say die, this is the truth the old man told us.

Santiago dreams his pleasant dream of the lions at play on the beaches of Africa three times. The first time is the night before he departs on his three-day fishing expedition, the second occurs when he sleeps on the boat for a few hours in the middle of his struggle with the marlin, and the third takes place at the very end of the book. In fact, the sober promise of the triumph and regeneration with which the novella closes is supported by the final image of the lions.

Santiago in The Old Man and the Sea is the representative figure of Hemingway's "tough guy" image. Although he is an ordinary fisherman, his brave, firm, uncompromising and unyielding spirit shown in the face of failure and setbacks is very valuable and worth learning from every one of us.

Santiago is a man with strong will and great courage. When facing the elements, he will not give in and chose to fight against the difficulties. Besides, struggling with hunger and scarcity, he never makes complaints and always finds his ways to take comfortd from himself. Knowing  he may beat bitterly by the nature, he never admits that he is defeated, instead, he always tried hard to gian his  strenghth and dignity.

Santiago is still a smart man, if he is simply brave, then it will be very difficult to survive in the rapidly changing sea, so Hemingway's Santiago not only has the bravery that ordinary people do not have, but he is also very intelligent. For example, he knows how to treat his wounds with salt water, knows how to judge the location of fish according to the direction of the current, etc., these are the manifestations of Santiago's wisdom, and only those who are wise and brave can survive better.
