4. When the time traveler goes to the future, he takes with him a few items, including a camera, matches, a knife, a flask of brandy, a small Morion helmet, and a leather cigar case with cigarettes.
5. In the future, the Palace of Green Porcelain is in ruins, and the time traveler initially thought it was an oasis of beauty and tranquility amidst the decay of the rest of the world. However, he later realizes that the Palace, like everything else in the future, has been subject to decay and destruction.
6. The ending of the novel is somewhat ambiguous. The time traveler goes into the distant future and sees the world come to an end, and then returns back to his own time to tell the story. The narrator, however, is left wondering whether the time traveler may have traveled further into the future and stayed there instead of coming back to his own time.
