The Terracotta Army, also known as the Terracotta Warriors, is a
collection of life-sized terracotta sculptures of soldiers that were
buried with the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, in the 3rd
century BC. The army consists of over 8,000 individual terracotta
soldiers, each with unique facial features and expressions. The purpose
of the Terracotta Army was to protect the emperor in the afterlife and
to demonstrate the power and wealth of the Qin dynasty. The Terracotta
Army is considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the
20th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
