It was discovered in 1974 by farmers in Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China. The army was made to protect the emperor in the afterlife and consists of more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, and 670 horses. The Terracotta Army is considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
