The Temple of Heaven is one of the major symbols of Beijing, famous for its large-scale and amazing architecture that millions of tourists visit every year. The Temple is a complex of Taoist buildings (though Taoism developed after the construction of the building) figuring as the largest ancient sacred place of worship in China. In ancient times, the Temple of Heaven was the place where emperors used to come every winter solstice to worship Heaven, unique element mandating emperors' status on the earth.

Heaven, also known as the "Heavenly Deity" or "Heavenly Emperor," was the mysterious force that directed all things on Earth, such as natural harvests and personal fate. Heaven stood for righteousness. Heaven was more inclined toward love and tolerance, punishing people only occasionally.

The Temple of Heaven is a worthwhile visiting place in Beijing. It is much bigger than the Imperial Palace (the Forbidden City) and smaller than the Summer Palace with an area of about 2 700 000 square meters. The temple was built in 1420 A.D. in the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifice to Heaven. As Chinese emperors called themselves “the Son of Heaven”, they dared not to build their own dwelling “Forbidden City” bigger than the dwelling for Heaven.

Here is only an overview of the Temple of Heaven, but there is no significance of the Temple of Heaven.

Temple of Heaven, formerly known as "Temple of Heaven and Earth", is located on the east side of Yongdingmen Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing. It was a place for the emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties to offer sacrifices to heaven, pray for grain and pray for rain. It is the largest ancient sacrificial building complex in China.
