中国人的精神书评 车昌帅E33
First-time readers will inevitably be shocked by Mr. Gu's forthright self-confidence. In modern Europe, where the moral power represented by religion has been declining in maintaining social order, the worship of force has developed into militarism, and the conflict of economic interests has evolved into the contradiction of striving for hegemony over the world, which ultimately led to the collapse of the whole European social order. As a citizen of the passive side of the victim of militarism, Gu Hongming stood still while the nation was chasing the upsurge of Western thought. Instead of looking on coldly without the complaints of the weak, he boldly pointed out to foreigners:
"Europeans will find this new moral force in China, in Chinese civilization."
He has this confidence. His self-confidence stems from his profound understanding of Chinese traditional culture over the past 2500 years, especially Confucian culture. The realization of moral power does not depend entirely on religion in the literal sense of Europe, but can be extended to a broader belief system, that is, religion of good citizenship, which he believes exists in the hearts of Chinese people for thousands of years. Here, the connotation of belief has already surpassed the so-called "supernatural" worship, but it is the ultimate life concept rooted in the heart of a nation through family ties and social atmosphere shaping. The origin of this idea is no different from that of Christianity. It comes from the love of couples, the respect for parents, and under the influence of the social structure, it further derives from loyalty to the monarch or emperor. The so-called "gentleman's way is created by couples; and even, it reaches the heaven and earth." This is the essence of Confucianism, the mainstream thought in China for thousands of years.
In fact, China's society has never been a religious society in a strict sense. Although polytheism exists from ancient times to present, it has never been strictly incorporated into the mainstream ideology. The clan-centered agricultural society emphasizes the belief of blood inheritance. We worship our ancestors, which is the source of our lives. We value our children, which is the successor of our lives. Imagination of the past and the future is portrayed in Confucian culture as a more contemporary family ethic concept - the meaning of life lies not in whether an individual belongs to heaven or hell after death, but in the special position of the family which is in endless continuity. Therefore, according to Gu Hongming, Confucianism is roughly between Platonic philosophy and real religion. "For morality, the people do not have enough wisdom to understand them as ideas, nor enough personality to strictly follow them as laws. For this reason, the philosophy and morality taught by Plato, Aristotle and Herbert Spencer are only valuable to scholars." The morality of Platonic philosophy is too high for the masses, and the morality in religious sense still needs the help of personalized God image. Only Confucianism does not need additional assumptions, it effectively constructs a set of laws to maintain the stability of the country and the family, which is a brilliant creation of the Chinese people.
