Pure Heart of the Chinese 中国人的赤子之心
Pure Heart of the Chinese
Until now, I think it is the most right decision of me to read the book The Spirit of the Chinese People during my winter holiday. After finishing this book, I would like to share some my opinions with other readers.
The Spirit of the Chinese People is a book containing words with cleverness and humor. This book tells the readers the real life of Chinese and shows a full image of Chinese civilization and history, both of which help create the Chinese’s spirit. When it comes to the true spirit of Chinese, the author uses his extraordinary writing ability to give readers a satisfying answer that the real Chinaman, we see now, is a man who lives the life of a man of an adult reason with the simple heart of a child.
There is no denying that the author Mr. Gu leaves me a deep impression. I first knew Mr. Gu from the picture of his self-portrait in the textbook when I was in high school and I think he should be a stubborn man. However, from this book, I find a totally different gentleman who takes pride in Chinese civilization and spares no effort in publicizing it. Besides, readers will run into some words deserving thinking deeply between lines. For example, Mr. Gu made comparison between Chinamen and people from other country like the British, American, French and Germany and finally concluded that only Chinamen are deep, broad, simple and delicacy. From such sentence, readers can feel the pure heart of Mr. Gu and his devotion to his country-----China.
The language the book uses is not limited to English and it also includes Latin, French and so on. This is another point that why I admire Mr. Gu since he mastered several languages. Furthermore, Mr. Gu discussed the religion in this book and introduced the Confucian. Meanwhile, he also reveals the shortcomings of western civilization, which needs Chinese culture to save. From this little aspect, readers could see how Mr. Gu loves his country.
Although I couldn’t appreciate the book Mr. Gu wrote, I still has doubts about some points and can’t agree with. In the book, Mr. Gu mentioned the problem of the Chinese women. He put emphasis on the loyalty of wives to their husbands, but their husbands could marry other women according to their mood. However, this action may hurt every women involved in this relationship and it also reflects the inequality between men and women.
Anyway, if considering the background of this book, I am amazedly surprised at the uniqueness of the views on the spirit of Chinese People and we readers could learn from something that is very rich in meaning. What’s more, we should also has the pure heart like Mr. Gu filled with enthusiasm for our country . Though the society now is not very perfect, as Chinamen in modern times, we should work together to help our country, China, become stronger and stronger.
And, this is what we say----the pure of heart of the Chinese, which loves the country and loves the world.
