THE SPIRIT OF THE CHINESE PEOPLE which was written by Mr.Gu hongming is a masterpiece. It gave a great astonishment to Occidental in that special age, which broke and overturn their old opinion about Chinese people. Through this book, Mr.Gu showed the true Chinese society and people to Occident, correct name for Chinese people.
After reading this book, I feel proud as a Chinese people. Not only in that special age, but also at present, this book both can give play to its effect. In that special age, it can change Occidental’s opinion about Chinese, can protect the honor of the Chinese culture. Now, it can arouse countrymen’s confidence to our culture, let us have a deeper understanding to our culture.
In this book, what Mr.Gu describe our Chinese character and Chinese culture can be summarized three word: deep, board and profound, honest. Besides, and delicacy. From these angles, Mr.Gu compared Chinese with Americans, English, and Germans, and French people. We have all of these advantages, but others have their own disadvantages. Through this way, Mr.Gu showed our Chinese to all people in the world: we have something others can’t have, we are unique.
Besides, in Mr.Gu’s eyes, the first character of Chinese is gentle. But this gentle isn’t born weak or vulnerable to submission, but are not tough, harsh, rude and violent. The true Chinese may have some imperfections, on the contrary, we aren’t aggressive, absurd, and evil, we wouldn’t let others feel disgusted with us, sometimes maybe let others feel lovely.
Then, Mr.Gu point the second character of Chinese is full of sympathy. Because almost all Chinese people live in a strong sense of sympathy. This is because the Chinese people take the body as an organism and produce conscious or unconscious. Because real Chinese people live an emotional or human-influenced life, they may sometimes be said to have neglected what they should do. Our sympathy is natural, which don’t let others feel disgust. As time goes on, others will love the feel of living with us. Nowadays, more and more foreigners start move to China to live, and they start to taste and study Chinese culture. They change to love Chinese people and culture. In this case, why we don’t love our culture and feel honor as a Chinese people?
In China, we don’t have religion as Europe. Because we have Confucius and Lao Zi, they didn’t create imaginary Gods to disseminate their ideology. They boarded their thoughts by teaching,. They recruited students and taught their thoughts to their students. Then, their students boarded their thoughts to more people. No other than smriti and develop generation after generation, we can possess so excellent culture and stand erect in this world. We should feel grateful to these ancestors and feel honor to have so excellent culture. We are lucky. Sure, Chinese culture is lucky. Through these years, it still maintain integrity and continuous, never be interrupted.
In a word, whenever and wherever, we should be proud as a Chinese, be proud of our excellent culture forever,
