The Spirit of Chinese People，a New World to me

The book, the Spirit of Chinese People, touched me deeply with the wonderful analysis of true Chinaman.

In the prologue, Mr.Ku analyzed the spirit of some western European countries and drew a conclusion that they should learnt things from the traditional spirit of Chinese people. Only in this way, can they live in peace. The most important and valuable characteristic of Chinese people are deep, broad, simple and delicacy. I was truly attracted by his interesting comparison between Chinese and people of western countries. And in his way, I have a deeper understanding of both history and culture.

In the following part of the book, he first introduces the religion of China, Confucianism, and thinks highly of it. Then, he introduces traditional Chinese spirit and many other parts of Chinese society.

At the last few chapters, the book uses a lot of words describes sinology and the feelings and study about Chinese spirit of foreigners. In my eyes, those parts make the spirit of Chinese people to be globalizing, which needs a broad vision.

As far as I am concerned, the most attractive part of the book is the last two chapter, where it discussed the origin of war and how to keep peace. He thought the mob is the reason and the way to solve it is Chinese spirit.  With his deep analysis, the essence of Chinese political thought clearly formed in my mind.

He was so brilliant and his word was easy to understand. What is more, he used a lot of comparison and example, which makes it so attractive to those who were interested in traditional Chinese culture. That was why his book was so popular in western countries at that time. 

 At that time, most Chinese chose to accept western thought and pay little attention to the traditional Chinese spirit. But Mr. Ku stood out and show the spirit of Chinese people to the world.

Every coin has two sides. However, many parts of the book were out of time. The spirit of Chinese people is priceless, but it also has much dross. Take the latter part of the book for example. The old thought of Chinese women was feudal and the old moral code, which should be abandoned, was still an important part of the book. In addition, the absolutely belief of traditional Chinese spirit don not seem wise to me. The book may be too traditional in some way, but it also absorbed many advanced thoughts which enables foreigners easily accept. That really touched me a lot. Because of the dross, we need to spend more time thinking its thoughts.

To be honest, I learnt more than the spirit of Chinese people. What I get from the book is the courage to face our own culture and the confidence of our excellent traditional culture. And I think they may be the real treasure it leaves to me. 

 In a word, the book makes great contribution to the spread of Chinese culture and the development of human. This book is truly a bold and meaningful masterpiece.
