After reading the book the spirit of Chinese people, I found that it is really difficult to read English book for a real Chinese college student like me.
I think the direct motivation for Mr. Ku Hong-Ming to write the book is the World War Ⅰ. He must be proud of being a Chinese because he spared no effort to praise Chinese in this book.
Chinese has no grossness in their coarseness, no hideousness in their ugliness, no aggressiveness in their vulgarity, no absurdity in their stupidity, no malignity in their cunning.
Comparing our Chinese with the Americans, the British, the Germans and the French, Mr. Ku concluded that the Americans are broad and simple but not deep; the British are deep and simple but not board; the Germans are board and deep, but they are not simple, only Chinese is equipped with all these three qualities: deep broad and simple. I felt more proud of my nationality after thinking about words of Mr. Ku
When he talked about Confucianism, I was shocked. I had never heard about that Confucianism is not a religion but it can take the place of religion, it can make man do without religion. Confucianism become a religion or the equivalent of religion for the mass of the whole Chinese as well as for the learner of China.
The words of Mr. Ku are logical. It is the worship of the mob, the religion of the worship of the mob in all European countries, especially in Great Britain, which is responsible for the worship of might in Germany which has created the enormous enormity and monstrosity of German militarism in European today.
I am so poor that I even think Mr. Ku was showing off his vocabulary. He always used several adjectives to describe only one thing.
The Chinese woman, with their debonair charm and grace, her purity and above all, her religion of selflessness-is the guardian angel of the miniature heaven, the home in China.
Chinese language is difficult not because it is complex but because it is deep. It is difficult because it is a language for expressing deep feeling in simple language.
I am full of respect for Mr. Ku for his patriotic heart.
