孔子的学生樊迟问什么是“仁”，孔子回答说：“爱人”，这是孔子对“仁”的最重要的解释。“爱人”，是一种普遍的爱。When his student Fan Chi asked him about ren, Confucius replied, “Love of people”. This is Confucius’s most important interpretation of ren. Love for the people is universal love.

孝悌，即孝敬父母，友爱兄弟。孔子说“孝悌”是“仁之本”：Confucius regarded “filial piety and fraternal duty” as the essence of ren.

父母在，不远游，游必有方。Children should not travel far while their parents are alive. If they have no choice but to do so, they must retain some restraint.

己所不欲，勿施于人：“Do not do toward others anything you would not want to be done to you”。
