林若彬 《了不起的盖茨比》 A Book Review
In the book The Great Gatsby, the poor boy Gatsby was born of humble origins. However, Gatsby was aware of hard work and train when he’s young. In order to win back his sweetheart Daisy, Gatsby become a rich man many years later. When we think that Gatsby will have a happy ending with his Daisy, the reality that Daisy just valued material things slapped us hard--Gatsby died lonely at last.
Having read this book, I think someone will feel disappointed. Because there are so many people like Gatsby who have no support, no rich families, no talents. They are just ordinary people who continuously work hard achieve their goals--maybe just want to solve the problem of food and clothing. Nevertheless, this book lets us down. The hard boy Gatsby was lonely and was deceived by the dark society, making us want to cry out of pity that effort pays no dividends.
However, in my opinion, when we face to our dream, what our attitudes are is mostly important. I mean, ignoring the possible consequences to chase dreams isn’t a rational choice. Gatsby’s persistence may be melting, but the cost of hie life lets us grieve. I think we should be responsible for our dreams, but if the original intention of the dream changes, we ought not to hold a grudge but let it go. The life isn’t easy, the future maybe so difficult, but as long as we still live in this world, we can have our beautiful dreams and follow them. The road of chasing the dream may be the best.
