After reading The Great Gatsby, I would like to talk about why Gatsby is great. As far as I’m concerned, the main reason why Gatsby is great is that he, without fortune and outlook, lack everything but dreams.

        The Great Gatsby is a story told by Nick about a man named Gatsby. At the beginning of the book, Gatsby was a poor young man full of dream, bravery and other valuable qualities. He strived for more money, better social-class status and better life in a regular way with his efforts. However, he was treated by The Cody’s and all of his inheritance property lost. His dream was hit and he became his old self. During a party he met Daisy and fell in love with her. However, he was too poor to marry Daisy. When he came back after war, Daisy had married Tom. To get Daisy, Gatsby earned substantive money illegally, came to New York City, bought a house and held parties, which were luxurious out of imagination, in order to draw Daisy’s attention. Fortunately, he knew Nick and came to him for help. With Nick’s help, Gatsby met Daisy and recovered to their romantic time. Gatsby tried to persuaded Daisy to be with him and left Tom forever. However, he lost his life at last.

        We can see from the story that Gatsby regarded Daisy as his dream and for this dream he tried all methods to achieve it, joining the army, earned money illegally, holding luxurious parties and so on. Although he was betrayed by Daisy and killed, at least he ever owned a dream and spared no efforts for it. Man, as he grows, becomes realistic. However, without dreams, what can man hold? So from this perspective, Gatsby is great and I respect him.
