Gone are the days when people were pure and sincere, to which we can never return. If being soaked in the faked dream about the past, one will be unable to accommodate himself to the reality. Being overwhelmed with longing for the years which he shared with Daisy,
Gatsby decided to live the rest of his life not for the future, but for the past. Unfortunately, human hearts are not what they were in the old days, so is Daisy’s. Although her beauty seemed to be permanent, she was not the girl whom he loved any more, how cruel and selfish she was then was further beyond his imagination. I dare bet that he would never think of himself being murdered as a result of Daisy’s plot. If he was aware of his daydream, he would have left the past behind and step into a bright future. However, under no circumstance can his life be saved, but that’s no matter-as the book says, “tomorrow we will run faster, stretch our arms farther...” Regardless of being borne back ceaselessly into the past, we beat on, boats against the current.
