<Chinese Spirit> is divided into the spirit of the chinese people ,the chinese woman ,the chinese language ,John Smith in China,a great sinologue and chinese scholarship.In this book ,Mr.gu explained Chinese culture and Chinese spirit in a neutral tone ,neither boasting nor inferiority .He writed this book just like telling stories ,which made people more acceptable.I think it’s also good for readers who come from abroad.because nobody likes reading madcap words.  When foreigners really like this book ,their attitude of China will change,which is also Mr,Gu’s wish. About this book,firstly, this book talked about Chinese spirit .The writer corrected the image of China in the eyes of foreigners. The writer said :all of Chinese are gentlemen ,the writer also said :the real Chinese may be ugly,but there is no hideous in his ugliness. I extremely agree these statements .because China is famous as state of ceremonies. Chinese are neither arrogant nor impetuous ,nor eager for quick success nor passive or idle. It’s can be said the spirit of the Chinese people is the spirit of moderation. Because of this book ,the statue of China was improved in that period .Then the writer introduced the chinese polite . Chinese polite is different from Japanese polite. However,Mr.Gu don’t say the shortcoming of Japanese polite,which is ingenious part. By talking some foreigners’ opinions, such as chinese polite is complex but comfortable,but Japanese polite is miscellaneous,it’s helpful to let more people learn chinese culture. After that ,he talk about the Chinese woman ,which is my favourite part. Mr.Gu did not emphasized the drawbacks of concubinage system and other feudal practices in China,instead ,he talked and praised the greatness and selflessness of Chinese woman .By response to questions about China’s marriage system,he told the world that Chinese women are happy in her marriage ,which is the best proof . Next it’s about Chinese language,and it’s more wonderful. Chinese language has a long history. Four ancient civilization countries language but for China were fade. In order to show the charm of Chinese language to the world , writer used many examples. Meanwhile, the writer compared chinese poems with foreign poem,in this way, the readers can see the gap clearly . If you want to express the same meaning,foreign poem will be much longer than chinese poem. Because when Chinese poets write poems,it will take a long time to choose every word.And in ancient,writing poem have many rules to obey,such as rhythm,guidelines ,level and oblique tones and so on. May be it’s same to express meaning,but it must have the best choice. When i read this book ,i found Mr,Gu is a perfect spokesman of Chinese language,because he just three word to summarize the spirit of Chinese:deep,broad and simple. These words are short ,but clearly show the image of Chinese to all the word.To sum up ,the book has a lot of lightspots. I like this book ,it not only has many wonderful parts,but for improves the image of China. By reading this book,many countries change attitude of China. Mr.Gu use his pen to redeem decades of lost honour and dignity. When China was mocked, Mr.Gu throw himself into breach.he is admirable!
