传统之中国

Gu Hongming has a thorough understanding of how ancient Chinese culture served as the horse of a country, and pulled the people of this land forward for thousands of years.

The reason why Chinese people are good is that they have a kind of natural human friendship and a kind of spiritual pleasure. The Chinese nation is innocent as a child, but it shines with extremely rational brilliance.

There is no religion in China, but the Confucian benevolence and propriety meet people's needs for religion. The order established by restraining oneself and reverting to one's propriety and pushing oneself and others continues without the impact of violent external forces.

Chinese women are totally selfless. They devote themselves to their families and maintain a family with their dedication for life. The fundamental way to maintain Chinese society is from home to country. Some people say that this is an inequality between men and women, but in fact, in Chinese tradition, men and women are equal. In old-fashioned weddings, when couples pay homage, the woman kneels down to the man, and the man kneels down to the woman. He moves forward slowly with his knees, swaps places, and then bows down.

At this point, the book should be highly recommended. But what I disagree with is that later, Gu Hongming attributes the cause of the world war to the fear and riots of the mob. And he wants to focus power on individuals with strong personalities to end the war. It should be noted that the mob, though blind but unconscious, can only have direction under the instigation and bewilderment of individuals with centralized power.

Riots and passions can only cause destruction. It is impossible for such people to maintain the stability and development of a country. This is the reason why Gu Hongming refused to participate in the Neo-Nationalist MovementThe Neo-Nationalist Movement.

Although it is a book with insight, it is limited, one-sided and not essential. Gu Hongming's admiration of Confucianism is based on his fantasy of clan, loyalty and filial piety, Township virtues and other concepts. We can see from above, Gu Hongming may have been a very accomplished scholar at that time, but his thought still has great limitations. He defended the patriarchal clan, loyalty and filial piety, and township virtuous.

He is a contradiction. He is not only the first person in China who knows western culture, but also an extreme conservative. He himself reflects the contradiction between Chinese culture and Western culture. His conservatism makes many people think that he is indifferent to it, but at the present time when the Chinese spirit is gradually disappearing, it is necessary to re-read Mr. Gu's works and rethink how to adjust the conflict between Chinese traditional culture and modern westernized society. Like the plait of him, when he teaches in PKU, he said” People`s plait has disappeared, however, the plait in their minds are alive.” What he said sticks straight to reader`s hearts, torture reader`s hearts.

In general, this book is worth reading, but with critical thoughts.
