From this book, I try to catch on to the spirit of Chinese and the value of the Chinese civilization. The value of civilization is not great cities but the type of humanity. Chinese people have a unique characteristic which is delicacy. Besides, Chinese people are also deep broad and simple. The author compared with American, Germans, French people, English people and only Chinaman have all these brilliant characteristic. Gentle is also a spirit of Chinese which is not weak but not strong, harsh, rude and violent. The author like to compare Chinese with other countries people to show the spirit of Chinese and the value of the Chinese civilization. Although the age when the book was written is different from now, the essence of Chinese man and woman is same that all have the preeminent characteristic. This book had changed many foreigners impression of China and dispel their bad prejudice. Maybe now the younger don’t like to read this type of book but it really helped our country to stand upon dignity.
