大王大王After finishing the Great Gatsby, what I took away as the most central theme of this novel is the concept of the American dream and it’s impact on individualism in a 1920’s era America. The author, F. Scott Fitzgerald led a deeply troubled life, and much of that pain is apparent in the story of the novel’s protagonist, Jay Gatsby. A man who while surrounded by people and money is unable to find happiness in anything other than Daisy, and the mysterious green light.
