what lesson have helen taught jane to ?

Helen burns is the first friend who give Jane hope and love in her life ,and we can see from her that she possess valuable virtue which affect Jane for her whole life, but is this indispensable for Jane? And why she possess a strong belief of forgiving others as a religious belief?
