A Journey to the Centre of the Earth and A Journey to the Interior of the Earth) is a classic 1864 science fiction novel by Jules Verne. The story involves German professor Otto Lidenbrock who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans descend into the Icelandic volcano Snæfellsjökull, encountering many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, before eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy, at the Stromboli volcano.

作者简介

儒勒·凡尔纳（1828.2.8～1905.3.24），是19世纪法国著名小说家、剧作家以及诗人。凡尔纳出生于法国港口城市南特的一个中产阶级家庭，早年依从其父亲的意愿在巴黎学习法律，之后开始创作剧本以及杂志文章。在与出版商埃泽尔父子合作期间（1862年至凡尔纳去世），凡尔纳的文学创作事业取得了巨大成功，他的不少作品被翻译成多种语言，受到了各国读者的喜爱。凡尔纳一生创作了大量优秀的文学作品，代表作有《海底两万里》、《八十天环游地球》及《气球上的五星期》等。

Jules Gabriel Verne (February 1828–24 March 1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright best known for his adventure novels and his profound influence on the literary genre of science fiction.

Verne was born to bourgeois parents in the seaport of Nantes, where he was trained to follow in his father's footsteps as a lawyer, but quit the profession early in life to write for magazines and the stage. His collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel led to the creation of the Voyages Extraordinaires, a widely popular series of scrupulously researched adventure novels including Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and Around the World in Eighty Days.
