What reasons could there be to choose to save the one person rather than the five in Philippa Foot’s trolley problem?

In my opinion, human beings are very complex creatures. If I'm a streetcar driver, and the person on this road is someone I cherish, and the five people on the other road are strangers, maybe I'll save one person and give up the other five. Of course, I may bear the corresponding legal responsibility and my conscience. On the contrary, if the people on both paths are strangers to me, I may choose to save five people instead of one because I have been taught that the collective interest is more important.

There is no definite standard of valuing life. Five persons’ lives do not necessarily cost more than one life, and neither does the one person’s life necessarily has more value than five other lives, since they are independent of each other. In this case, if the trolley was aiming at the group of five people, I would do nothing, hence save the one person. Because if I turn, I would be directly killing the one person’s life, and nobody should bear the power of deciding the survival of another person.
