It depicts severe competition and in-fighting within the same trade, which happens in an evil and ruthless way. This novel is actually a reflection of the business experience of the author himself which he gets from his management of a printing house. It was an age that helped promote the development of talents, but at the same time there were elements hindering development of people. This has constituted the source of conflicts of this novel.
