Jean Henri Fabre devoted hours of rapt attention to insects while they hunted, built nests, and fed their families. Working in Provence, in barren, sun-scorched fields inhabited by countless wasps and bees, he observed their intricate and fascinating world, recounting their activities in simple, beautifully written essays. Blending folklore and mythology with factual explanation, these charmingly related stories of insect life are a rare combination of scientific study and literary classic that will delight entomologists, naturalists, and nature lovers alike.

The ten volumes of Souvenirs Entomoligiques which took almost 30 years to complete are the great heritage that prominent scientist has left us. These ten volumes have become the true gem of entomological science and naturalistic encyclopedia as well. Written in humanistic style and from the first person Fabre's observations and experiments are so easy and fascinating to read that entomology had finally become popular among nature-lovers without a science degree.

Jean-Henri Casimir Fabre (December 22, 1823 – October 11, 1915) was a French naturalist, entomologist, and author known for the lively style of his popular books on the lives of insects. Fabre was born in Saint-Léons in Aveyron, France. He acquired a primary teaching certificate at the young age of 19 and began teaching in Carpentras whilst pursuing further studies. However, he is probably best known for his findings in the field of entomology, the study of insects, and is considered by many to be the father of modern entomology. His Souvenirs Entomologiques is a series of texts on insects and arachnids. He influenced the later writings of Charles Darwin, who called Fabre "The Homer of Insects".
